The Fun Factory Vim Review – A Weighted Vibrating Wand
Table of Contents
Introduction
Fun Factory, along with We-Vibe, are two of my favorite luxury sex toy brands (I’ve dubbed them luxury). Each toy is well-made and reliable, and both foster absol-fucking-lutely fantastic rumbly vibrators. My first experience with Fun Factory was over ten years ago; I bought the Stronic Eins. It was the toy that inspired me to open up this blog and was my first and worst sex toy review.
Since then, my collection has expanded. The first sex toy I got from Fun Factory for review was the Boss, which developed into the entire Stronic line (including the Bi-Stronic, Stronic Surf, Stronic G, Stronic Real, Stronic Zwei, and rando vibrators like the Tiger and silicone dildos like the Limba or the Bouncer. Quite frankly, most toys by Fun Factory have hit the spot.
It was a delight when Fun Factory emailed me and offered me the VIM, their first wand vibrator. I never see orange in sex toys, so I jumped at the chance to get the VIM in orange (though the Midnight Blue color is *a chef’s kiss*)
Design
The Fun Factory VIM comes in two beautiful colors and sports the traditional wand design – a large head and long body to hold, two buttons to control its various functions, and is completely silicone.
VIM’s neck is moveable, something I always appreciate, as I tend to force the head of the wand against my clit, which can limit my mobility due to my back. The silicone casing allows for the VIM to be water-resistant. Most Fun Factory toys are waterproof or water-resistant, so this was a feature I expected. Most wands I’ve tried, including the legendary (Hitachi) Magic Wand Original or the Le Wand Original, are not waterproof.
The VIM is weighted at the top, a unique feature that makes it balance perfectly in my hand. I don’t know the physics behind it, but the weighted head makes it more straightforward to hold and apply the amount of pressure I need to.
Materials, Care, and Keeping
Silicone is a body-safe material that’s easy as fuck to take care of. A wash with soap and water will clean the toy because it won’t harbor bacteria by absorbing bodily fluids. Provided there are no bodily fluids left in the minimal crevices of the VIM, sanitizing this is unnecessary.
The VIM is Rechargable!
Almost all Fun Factory mechanical toys are rechargeable (with a few exceptions, though they offer a rechargeable unit to go with them). Charge the toy by connecting the magnetic grounding cable and plugging it into a USB socket like your laptop or an adapter. When you’ve hit full charge, you’re good to go! Please remember to charge it completely. The worst is to be close to climax and have your toy run out of charge.
Using the Fun Factory VIM
I’m thrilled to tell you that Fun Factory tends to use an appropriate amount of buttons. Toys that utilize more buttons than necessary drive me insane. I’m here with the toy to have fun and to come. I don’t want to be confused mid-jack-off. I don’t want to have to memorize how a toy works. And I certainly don’t want to stop and remove the toy from in/on my body to change the settings.
A toy with too many buttons turns me and the toy off. I’m a reviewer, so I use toys with many buttons but do so with contempt.
The Buttons
The VIM has three buttons: an “on/off” that triples as a travel lock and two buttons that control both the speeds and patterns.
The VIM has three patterns and five vibration strengths, including an “edging program.” Edging is when you bring yourself close to climax with sexual stimulation, and when you’re about to come, you back tf off. I discovered edging at a young age and love the fuck out of it. It’s fucking fantastic to have a toy do that for you. If you’re not into patterns, at least try the edging program.
Water-Based Lubricant vs. Silicone Lubricant
A note of warning: silicone lubricant is not usually compatible with silicone toys. A chemical reaction happens when the two are combined. I understand none of it, so I encourage you to research. If you insist on using silicone lubricant, which I recommend you do not, test a small drop on the handle of the toy and wait and see if you’ve done fucked up. Honestly, I only use it for butt stuff.
Instead, use a water-based lubricant. There’s a vast market of water-based lubricants, and I have a few favorites that I encourage you to try.
Now, the VIM is not an internal toy. Designed for use outside your body, there are endless opportunities to use the VIM! Use it on your nipples, your clit, the head of your dick, or your pernium! Using lubricant when a toy touches my body is a safe practice for me. My skin is sensitive, and the drag from silicone to my vulva can tear my vulva. Lube is unnecessary, but many of us prefer to have that barrier between our bare skin and a toy with a drag.
If You Must, Try a Hybrid
If you must use silicone lubricant, try a hybrid water-based silicone lube. It lasts longer and is slippier. Treat it like a silicone lubricant and test it on the toy before use. I like this, that, and this, too.
On to the Fun Stuff – My Experience with the Fun Factory VIM
I knew I was in for a treat when I saw the Fun Factory VIM. After I charged the Fun Factory VIM, I was set to go. At the time, I hadn’t read the instructions and didn’t know that it was only water-resistant. I was living in a hotel because our house flooded, and I was about to find out I was getting divorced. Life was stressful, but my blog kept me going.
I was too excited to use the VIM, so I took it into the shower while my wife was in the hotel suite. I used to masturbate in the water when we lived in our tiny apartment, too. This time, at the hotel, we had a fantastic shower surrounded by glass. To soothe myself, I’d sit in the shower for an hour or two and let the hot water numb my body. Adding the Fun Factory VIM to my routine was a blessing.
Fun Factory advertises VIM as having quiet vibrations, and they were 100% correct with that claim. I couldn’t even hear it when I was in the shower, so I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. My ex-wife and I were not on good terms then, and I didn’t want her involved most of the time. Quiet vibrations gave me the privacy that I needed.
Although the Fun Factory VIM is not waterproof, just water-resistant, and I was sitting in the shower with water cascading over the toy for hours, no harm came. I wouldn’t recommend that you take it into the shower or the bath; I may have just gotten lucky.
Immediately, the water-based lubricant I brought into the shower washed away. Hey, man, I tried. That’s why a hybrid lube can be ideal in many cases involving water.
How I Used the VIM
I decided to start with the basics of the VIM. I used it against my clitoris first. The rumbly vibrations were heaven-sent. They sucked me in and blew my mind. I find buzzy vibrations to become numbing – not with the Fun Factory VIM quickly!
I held the VIM against my body for an extended period until I felt myself reaching climax, and I let loose—no numbing involved.
The head of the Fun Factory VIM moved freely and allowed me more options to accommodate my back while sitting up and lying down. The weighted head wasn’t as heavy as the (Hitachi) and balanced exquisitely.
Overall
There isn’t a better wand in the market than the Fun Factory VIM. If you like rumbly vibrations, need a lighter toy, and crave the head’s flexibility, this toy is for you. You can pick up the VIM over at Fun Factory’s site. They’re among my trusted affiliates.
