Review: 50 Shades of Kink by Tristan Taormino

Review: 50 Shades of Kink by Tristan Taormino

I shudder when I hear women talk about Fifty Shades of Grey. If there is a book out there that demonstrates how not to practice BDSM, that is the book. However, a book that shows safe ways to enjoy kink play, “50 Shades of Kink” by Tristan Taormino is that book.

It’s a short book, with what appears to be the typical 12 point font. Normally, I don’t like short books. For a book to be good in my, er, book, it has to capture my attention, keep it, and keep feeding me. But it’s not half bad, “50 Shades of Kink” being so short. For one thing, it’s packed with information about safe kink and full of suggestions to make play more fun.

Another positive to this book is that because it’s short it kept my attention. There is no fluff that you find in some books. ”

50 Shades of Kink” reads like a how-to book From my experience in (reading about) BDSM it’s safe to say that she covers pretty much everything a beginner would need to know from role play to sexual power games, bondage and spanking.

This book is not pornographic, which is not rare but it’s worth noting. Much like her videos, Tristan Taormino’s book is educational but entertaining. It’s purpose is to inform people how to have safe, kinky sex but it’s certainly not one of the pamphlets you may find in your doctor’s office talking about using condoms. This book is much more than that. There are bad ways to get kinky (50 Shades of Grey) and then there are good ways to play with kink (50 Shades of Kink).

I’m going to give you some advice. If you read the unfortante formerly mentioned “50 Shades” book then you MUST read Taormino’s book. If you are interested in kink but don’t know where to start, you MUST read this book.

Thank you to Cleis Press for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review!

  1. I love Tristan’s style of education. I’d love to get this book. Maybe I should contact the publisher to ask if they would like any more reviews. I’d love to review some books on my site. I have “come as you are,” on my to do list, I’ve found it to be a useful book for my purposes as it deals with issues having an orgasm which is totally an issue I deal with. Hence my love of sex toys. Anyway, thank you for sharing this book with us.

    1. I think you should absolutely get this book for review! I have “Come as You Are” on my bookshelves but I haven’t read it yet.

    1. There’s a really good documentary book on the world of a domme but I cannot remember what it’s called. I love it and I’ve read it twice! It has a black cover with a domme in a green corset if I remember correctly.
