This is going to be a long post but bare with me, it’s well worth it. To make it easier for you to follow I’ve separated the review into a few categories: The Good; The Bad; The Boring Stuff; Who would like this; TL;DR; and the process. I’m writing this review for you so I want you to be able to navigate this massively long review! And, also, there’s a coupon code at the bottom. Zomg! Discount for the rest of the month. Hop on that dick before it gets soft!
This indie dildo was custom-made for me by Silvarus, a small Etsy company that is run by Rickard and his wife. Rickard does the wood work, his wife makes beautiful, satin and lace bags for the toys to protect them. He did mention that the bag design would be changing but the way it is now is still beautiful. The pouch I got is not padded but Rickard’s wife will be making padded ones from now on, for extra protection. I got the former pouch, the one without padding and that will do–for now. I don’t know how long it will hold up, given my storage options. The couple at Silvarus are also planning on selling the pouches separately in addition to the pouch the toy comes with.
I was asked to mention, and I happily will do so, that people who are following Silvarus on Facebook will get previews of toys that are about to come out, so they’ll—in theory—have first dibs on the new stuff. Trust me, you want to get in on this.
The fact that this toy was not only custom-made but each step was laid out for me, and I want to lay it out for you.
So I’ve cut out the main shape from the block of walnut, and then again on the other axis to get the basic blank to work with. This gives the idea of the final shape but anything can be changed as the work progresses. From here I will work down until the dildo has its round shape. Dimensions can be changed even though I might have reached that point… But first from this square shape to a more octagonal, slowly making it rounder and rounder.
The shaping is done. From this point there is nothing any machine tools can do. From here there is hours of hand sanding before the first layer of coating goes on which is my favorite moment in the whole process.
So I have just put on the first coat and it has always been my favorite part of the process. After the sanding the dildo is very smooth and even, but also dull in colour and grain. Putting on the first coat brings all that back and more. Unfortunately it also splits up the fibers in the wood so after each coat it has to be sanded again… and again.. and again .. Until around the tenth coat when I can apply more without sanding.
This process takes time. It has to cure a specific amount of time between each application and it’s just a waiting game. This application process will take a week plus.. And then polishing, but more later.
So I just put the last coat on the dildo. Now it has to cure properly so it needs to rest for 48+ hours, preferably maybe longer, before the polishing starts. Polishing is a whole process in itself so I’ll tell you more about it when I get there.
After the last coat has been applied, I leave it for at least 48 hours to cure properly. After the application of varnish is over, the surface isn’t totally smooth. If you look, and feel, carefully you notice marks from the brush used and a slight unevenness. To make remove this and make the surface smooth like glass there are a few steps that takes quite a bit of time and attention to get right. Took me a few years to get to the result I can present today.
First the surface has to be polished down to where the brush marks disappear and I use the highest grit sandpaper for this. Doesn’t even feel like sandpaper its so fine. More like a piece of fabric. You have to be careful; too much and the surface might be compromised… Too little and the marks will still be there.
Unfortunately, this step also remove the glossy surface, or the shiny texture to the dildo. To get that back again I polish the surface with a mixture of limestone and water, and then as a final step with limestone and a special oil. This makes the surface smooth and glossy.
This last step also functions and a test that the dildo really is waterproof. The mixture of stone and oil becomes a thick black sludge and if there’s any areas on the dildo that isn’t waterproof the mixture will turn that area all black. If that happens its not much more you can do but to start all over again. The polishing process can therefore be a bit nervous wrecking :-).
I had some questions–well, a LOT of questions so I’ll post the responses below.
– The toys from Silvarus are 100{3f7c80553853438a366aef0b7e76dba6b33433c1f55cb64b62d723dc82ff4775} waterproof and they have all been tested 3 times to make sure.
– With normal usage they will not chip no. If impact with another hard surface they might if dinged hard enough. If it is damaged, stop using it right away. Any moisture will be absorbed by the exposed wood and it will be a unhygienic situation, not to mention extremely uncomfortable to use. It could technically get fixed but it would be the same price and take quite as long as to buy a brand new one I’m afraid. So, On Her Back recommends that you don’t throw it onto a concrete floor. And, if you do, then just be wild and buy a whole new one!
– Prices for custom work will be the same (about) as a regular piece. If not online already then it will be shortly.
– I think I usually have 16-20 in stock at one time.
– If I make something to sell on my own it is always a custom piece; the only ones that has standard measurements are the ones shipped to stores. The two stores that sell my stuff both have their standard ones only to be bought from them.
The Good: I used this toy initially with a butt plug in, something I love doing with smaller toys. The small end was wonderful. It went in easily, the big end: not so much.
I did not have an orgasm. I have what I call “flare-ups” of anorgasmia from my meds and I haven’t been able to come for four weeks now; but you know what? It didn’t matter. This toy felt so good and was so stimulating on my g-spot that it didn’t fucking matter that I couldn’t come. I enjoyed every second of it being in me. Vibrations don’t do shit for me when I’m experiencing a flare-up so I didn’t have much hope of being pleasured by any of my toys that I’ve tried in the last for weeks; but I was so, so very happy to learn that I can experience pleasure in this frustrating time. I’ve gotten so frustrated that I’ve cried before, not being able to come, but this toy showed me that there are other ways to pleasure myself, ways that don’t end with me coming. I need to give Silvarus mad props for making a toy that can open me up 😉 to something I thought I couldn’t do for as long.
I found that the best way to experience pleasure and stimulate my g-spot to the max was to push the toy up and down. With the butt plug in it made sure the toy stayed in place, even when I wasn’t holding the toy; though it still did want to twist. Thrusting wasn’t something I wanted to do with a toy with a curve like that, though I’m sure it’d be pleasurable for most other women.
The coating on the toy makes it very slick. I only needed a small bit of lube. As someone who has trouble getting lubed up naturally, this is a wonderful thing. It made me forget that that’s yet another side effect of my medication. For those of you ladies who can lube the fuck up when getting aroused, chances are you won’t need lube.
I stuck the small end in me with no trouble. One of my favorite ways to jack off is with a butt plug in and so when I saw the small end I knew immediately how to go about fucking myself. With the butt plug in my ass (where else would I put it, my face?) I was able to hold the small end in place. When I pushed up and down the butt plug filled me up enough that light pressure was all that was necessary for me to get g-spot stimulation.
The small end was not filling but it really didn’t need to be… I mean, it stimulated my g-spot beautifully, it gave me pleasure during my anorgasmia flare-up; it did what it needed to do to please me.
The Bad: This bad is very subjective and, for many, I’m sure this will go in the “Good” category. However, I feel obligated to tell you one of the few things that didn’t work for me. The size of the big end was much too large for me (apparently) little vagina butt plug. Butt plug aside (literally), the large end did hurt going in. It was just too large for me to have it in me comfortably. Granted, I did get used to the size and when I left it in my vag and clenched it felt pretty good. The pain of it going in, though, wasn’t worth using trying to thrust in and out. It would just be painful. But, you know what? It may be just the right size for you! It’s not incredibly large but it’s certainly not small. With two sides and two sizes at the very least one of them is going to work for you.
The Boring Stuff: I forgot to ask Rickard if he could give me the dimensions before he sent it out and, for the life of me, I cannot find a sewing measuring tape so I don’t currently have the dimension for my wonderful readers. Hopefully that will come soon.
The surface is coated with a diluted form of safe polyurethane, specially made for safe use, for example children’s toys.
Considering children’s toys are regulated by the FDA, while sex toys are not, I’m comforted hearing that. Clenching around the big end, even though it hurt going in, was very pleasurable. The toy didn’t twist and I was able to feel it pressing up against the top of my vaginal wall. While it wasn’t pure g-spot stimulation with the large end, it was still pretty fucking awesome. I wasn’t able to stimulate my g-spot like I was with the smaller end.
Who would like this? Uh, anyone who knows their body. Hell, even if you don’t know you’re body you’ll like this. You know why? I’ll tell you why! Because you have the opportunity to make a custom order. For those of you who knows their body, you’ll get something you like; for those of you who don’t: this is a wonderful learning opportunity for you. Embrace the possibilities.
Final Thoughts: Well worth the price tag, which borders on $100. Most toys are $95 and the most expensive one appears to be $105. Silvarus also offers spanking paddles for the kinky or those interested in kink. Rickard is offering a discount with the coupon code “ONHERBACK” and it applies to anyone in the USA or Canada through the month of April, 2015. While I am not a man, nor an expert on prostate stimulation, my bitch boy and other male reviewers have vouched for the pleasurability (it’s a word now, BECAUSE I SAY SO) of the Pure Wand and the Comet II so I think it’s safe to say that you readers with a prostate could safely use the toys with a dramatic curve for prostate stimulation, like I used my toy for my g-spot.
TL;DR: You can make your own! It’s hard to go wrong with that opportunity.
You can contact Rickard via email (silvaruscanada@gmail.com), by visiting his Facebook page, and/or visiting his store, Silvarus, on Etsy.
Shouldn’t take a full week for drying, using the salad bowl finish air drying should take a few days at most.
Care to prove it to me? 😉
Would you say that the wood is lighter than this-sized-equivalent toy in silicone?
I’d like to think there’s a reason wooden sex toys aren’t really made anymore.
Seems like a fun opportunity to see what design really works best for you!
It really is. The guy behind this dildo art is really great, I highly recommend working with him. If you need help picking out a design, let me know, and we can try to figure out what is the best for your body <3
Wow, this is so beautiful and unique. I would probably want to just sit one out on display.
I really should get a stand for it. It is beautiful.
Looks very unique!
A custom toy sounds amazing! I’ve been curious about wood because it’s supposed to be easier on the wrists…
